1.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY AND KEY INFORMATION
1.1 OBJECTIVE
Smarter Balanced is looking to implement Power BI to streamline its existing business reporting and analytics capabilities.
To ensure successful deployment, the organization has engaged EPC Group to supplement its current in-house personnel
with expert consulting and development services to implement a Power BI solution. This initiative aims to verify and
validate Power Bl's capabilities against business requirements, establish critical considerations, and deploy a fully
functional solution that aims at gauging the overall health of the business. Below is an outline of the specific objectives
that Smarter Balanced is looking to achieve:
1. Power BI implementation — Deploy a Power BI system that meets business needs and requirements. This
deployment includes but is not limited to the following:
a. Develop and implement a Power BI architecture centered around business goals and best practices.
b. Develop a Power BI data architecture to meet the needs of Smarter Balanced
c. Transitioning multiple data sources as work is migrated to other systems
2. Power Bl reports and dashboards development - To include:
a. Build interactive Power BI reports and dashboards based on existing goals/KPIs.
b. Identify and implement additional Power BI reports and dashboards customizations as needed.
3. Best-practice implementation — Implement the solution in a best-practice manner. To include:
a. Identify and implement Power BI solutions based on business requirements and best practices.
b. Collaborate with all stakeholders to define the key considerations, expressed and unexpressed business
use cases, and any additional requirements for effective implementation of the solution.
This Statement of Work (SOW) has been developed for Smarter Balanced and describes the proposed objectives,
deliverables, and approach related to this project's scope of work. EPC Group will deliver this project to Smarter Balanced

1.2 SERVICE OVERVIEW
To ensure successful deployment, EPC Group recommends the following essential items for this initiative:
1. Assessment and discovery process — Engage all stakeholders to establish the critical technical requirements,
desired system capabilities, existing infrastructure, gaps and opportunities, design and deployment options, and
best practices to be considered before, during, and after the deployment of the Power Bl system.
2. On-the-job knowledge transfer — EPC Group will work alongside Smarter Balanced ‘s technical team to share
knowledge. The intention is to ensure that the technical staff acquires best practices to utilize and manage Power
BI effectively.
3. Expert resources — This initiative will be led by EPC Group's Power BI Architects and Developers with Errin
O'Connor, EPC Group's Founder and Chief Architect.
