Power BI Health Check and Governance Blueprint — a fixed-fee accelerator from EPC Group

Last updated by Errin O'Connor, Founder & Chief AI Architect, EPC Group

EPC Group delivers the Power BI Health Check and Governance Blueprint as a fixed-fee accelerator: 3 weeks, led by the senior architect named on the Statement of Work, scoped to the deliverables below. The decision it supports: What is actually wrong with the Power BI estate — governance, capacity, model quality, security, adoption — and what to fix first. Fixed fee, quoted after a 30-minute scoping call. EPC Group does not publish price ranges.

What it is

The health check reads the whole tenant: usage and capacity utilization, the inventory of workspaces, datasets, reports and dataflows classified for sprawl, the performance of the semantic models that matter, the security of sharing and service principals, and how adoption actually distributes across personas. Sensitive-content coverage is audited through Microsoft Purview so the Copilot question is answered as well.

It closes with a prioritized 90-day governance backlog, each item with a named owner, and an executive briefing. Where the check finds the Center of Excellence gap as the root cause, the CoE accelerator is the next step; where it finds model performance, the tuning accelerator is.

Who it is for

Enterprises with six months or more of Power BI in production that need an external assessment of tenant governance, capacity utilization, semantic model quality, security posture and adoption.

Start here by size — Start with an assessment. A first external look at one estate — Copilot readiness, data governance, Power BI health, AI spend — before any build is committed. The organizations EPC Group serves, and the ones it does not, are set out on the fit page.

Deliverables

  • Tenant-wide Power BI usage and capacity utilization analytics

Which workloads consume capacity, when, and what is dormant.

  • Sensitive-content, DLP and sensitivity-label coverage audit via Microsoft Purview

What is labelled, what is not, and what Copilot for Power BI would reach.

  • Workspace, dataset, report and dataflow inventory with sprawl classification

Certified, promoted, duplicated and orphaned assets named.

  • Semantic model performance scan

DAX, calculation groups, row-level security and partitioning on the models that matter.

  • Conditional access, service principal and B2B sharing security audit

How the estate is reached and by whom.

  • Adoption health scorecard

Active usage by persona and workload.

  • Prioritized 90-day governance backlog with named owners

The fixes in order, each with an accountable owner.

  • Executive briefing and Purview Compliance Manager baseline

The findings for the sponsor and the compliance starting point.

What is not included

  • Executing the backlog — model tuning, CoE build and clean-up are the follow-on accelerators.
  • Fabric capacity purchase or migration.
  • Report redesign.

Anything outside the deliverables above is a change order under the Engagement Charter — written, priced and approved before the work starts.

When to start

  • Before an audit, a Copilot for Power BI rollout or a capacity upgrade decision.
  • After a merger brings a second BI estate.
  • When an executive sponsor resets the Power BI programme.

How it is priced

Fixed fee, quoted after a 30-minute scoping call. EPC Group does not publish price ranges. The scoping call is run by the architect who would lead the work; the fixed fee, the deliverables and the acceptance criteria are written into the Statement of Work, and the change-control, escalation and acceptance rules are the ones in the Engagement Charter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Power BI administrator read access for the tenant inventory and activity logs, Purview read access for the coverage audit, and read access to the semantic models in scope.

Book the scoping call
