Power BI Center of Excellence Accelerator — a fixed-fee accelerator from EPC Group

Last updated by Errin O'Connor, Founder & Chief AI Architect, EPC Group

EPC Group delivers the Power BI Center of Excellence Accelerator as a fixed-fee accelerator: 12 weeks, led by the senior architect named on the Statement of Work, scoped to the deliverables below. The decision it supports: How the Power BI function is owned, staffed and run so governance and adoption survive consultant departure. Fixed fee, quoted after a 30-minute scoping call. EPC Group does not publish price ranges.

What it is

The accelerator builds the operating model: a charter with mission, scope, RACI and escalation; named roles from executive sponsor to analytics engineer; a workspace governance framework for certification, promotion, sensitive-data segregation and retention; and standards for semantic models, DAX, calculation groups and row-level security that make reuse the default.

A report design system, an intake and prioritization process wired into the organization's portfolio management, a champion network with one champion per business unit, and a quarterly maturity assessment give the CoE its rhythm. The twelve weeks are structured so each artifact is in use before the next is written.

Who it is for

Enterprises standing up their first Power BI Center of Excellence or refactoring one that is not working — typically after a health check names the missing CoE as the root cause of governance, adoption and sprawl problems.

Start here by size — Run a multi-wave programme. Migrations, landing zones and Centers of Excellence delivered in waves across a large estate. The organizations EPC Group serves, and the ones it does not, are set out on the fit page.

Deliverables

  • Power BI CoE charter

Mission, scope, RACI and escalation paths agreed with the sponsor.

  • CoE operating model with named roles

Executive sponsor, CoE lead, architect, governance steward, champion network lead, training lead, analytics engineer.

  • Workspace governance framework

Dataset certification, promoted and certified labels, sensitive-data segregation, retention.

  • Dataset and semantic model standards

Naming conventions, a DAX style guide, a calculation-group library and a row-level security pattern library.

  • Report design system

Layout standards, accessibility, branding and persona templates.

  • CoE-to-business intake and prioritization process

Integrated into the organization's existing portfolio management.

  • Champion network roster and training cadence

One champion per business unit and a monthly CoE-led session.

  • Quarterly Power BI maturity assessment

An executive scorecard the CoE runs itself after the engagement.

What is not included

  • Hiring or staffing the CoE roles — the model names them; the organization fills them.
  • Model tuning or report rebuilds — see the performance accelerator.
  • Fabric capacity purchase or migration.

Anything outside the deliverables above is a change order under the Engagement Charter — written, priced and approved before the work starts.

When to start

  • A health check named the missing CoE as the root cause.
  • The user base is scaling from a department to the enterprise.
  • A merger is consolidating several BI tenants, or a Fabric migration is ahead.

How it is priced

Fixed fee, quoted after a 30-minute scoping call. EPC Group does not publish price ranges. The scoping call is run by the architect who would lead the work; the fixed fee, the deliverables and the acceptance criteria are written into the Statement of Work, and the change-control, escalation and acceptance rules are the ones in the Engagement Charter.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The operating model assigns the roles to existing people where they fit and names the gaps; many organizations run the CoE as a function across IT and the business rather than a department.

Book the scoping call

A 30-minute call with the architect who would lead the Power BI CoE engagement; the fixed fee follows in writing.
