Microsoft 365 Copilot Workforce Training Curriculum
Untrained users are the difference between Copilot ROI success and ROI failure — and audit exposure. This is the EPC Group workforce training curriculum: six baseline modules + four role-based extensions + LMS-integrated license gate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does workforce training matter for Copilot?
Two reasons. (1) ROI. Users who understand Copilot's capabilities get 3-5× more value than users who don't — the pilot ROI depends on trained users, not just licensed users. (2) Governance. Workforce training + certification is one of the seven governance policies (see /answers/copilot-governance-policy-library) — regulatory audits ask 'how do you ensure your workforce uses Copilot appropriately' and the answer is 'here's the certified-training completion record from our LMS.' Untrained + uncertified users are audit exposure.
What is the baseline curriculum every Copilot-licensed user completes?
Six 30-minute modules, delivered via LMS with quiz completion required for license activation. (1) What Copilot Is + Is Not — capabilities, limitations, when to use Copilot vs when to think for yourself. (2) Sensitivity Labels + Data You Cannot Put Into External AI — the difference between M365 Copilot (tenant-grounded) and external tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) — do not paste PII, customer data, source code, or trade secrets into external tools. (3) Prompt Engineering Basics — writing effective prompts, iterating, giving context. (4) Verification + Accountability — Copilot output is a draft, not truth; verify facts before acting; you are accountable for the final work. (5) Copilot in Word / Excel / PowerPoint / Outlook / Teams — feature walkthroughs. (6) Incident Reporting — how to report suspected oversharing or misuse.
What are the role-based extension modules?
Four role-based extensions. (1) Managers — how to review Copilot-assisted work from direct reports, how to identify over-reliance patterns, how to discuss Copilot use in performance reviews. (2) Power Users — Copilot Studio agent authoring basics, prompt library best practices, prompt sharing across the team. (3) Regulated Roles (healthcare / FinServ / federal) — vertical-specific compliance overlays covering PHI handling, FINRA supervisable communications, or CUI marking. (4) Legal + Compliance — how to review Copilot-assisted output for privileged content, how to place a Copilot legal hold via Purview eDiscovery Premium, how to respond to a regulatory inquiry about AI use.
How does license-gate integration work?
Standard pattern: Entra ID group membership for Copilot licensing is gated on LMS training completion. User completes the baseline curriculum → LMS reports completion to Entra ID (via SCIM or a Power Automate flow) → Entra ID group membership is added → license is assigned. Users who lapse on quarterly refresh training (see below) are automatically removed from the group and the license is reclaimed. This creates a self-enforcing governance loop where untrained users never receive a license.
What is the refresh cadence?
Quarterly 15-minute refresh module covering: (1) new Copilot features released that quarter, (2) any incident or near-miss patterns observed in the tenant, (3) any policy changes to sensitivity labels + acceptable use, (4) any regulatory changes affecting Copilot use in the vertical. Refresh completion required to maintain license — automatic quarterly re-certification.
What does an EPC Group training curriculum engagement produce?
A 3-week fixed-fee engagement (can bundle into 30-Day Copilot Readiness Accelerator or run standalone). (1) Six baseline modules as LMS-ready SCORM packages (30 min each). (2) Four role-based extension modules as separate SCORM packages. (3) LMS-integration configuration for Entra ID gate + auto-reclamation. (4) Quarterly refresh module template (customer team maintains going forward). (5) Certification badge + Power BI training completion dashboard for reporting to executives + auditors. (6) 90-day content-refresh support for the first quarter of production use.
