EPC Group Conquers the Unconquerable: SharePoint 2003 to SharePoint Online in Record Time

EPC Group Conquers SharePoint 2003 to SharePoint Online Migration

HOUSTON, TX -- September 16, 2025. EPC Group today announced the successful completion of a Microsoft SharePoint 2003 to Microsoft 365 SharePoint Online migration in record time, demonstrating that even the most legacy SharePoint estates can be modernized without rewriting business workflows or losing institutional content.

Why SharePoint 2003 migrations are uniquely difficult

SharePoint 2003 predates the modern SharePoint object model. Direct migration tooling from 2003 to SharePoint Online does not exist as a single-hop path. Most enterprises that still run SharePoint 2003 do so because the platform hosts critical business workflows, custom-coded web parts, and content with intricate permission inheritance.

EPC Group migration playbook handles this estate through a structured multi-hop approach: intermediate landing platform (SharePoint 2010 or 2013) as a staging hop, content classification with sensitivity-label remapping, permission inheritance preservation, custom web part assessment with SharePoint Framework (SPFx) rebuild guidance, workflow migration to Power Automate, and parallel-run validation before cutover.

Errin O Connor on the milestone

Errin has been working in the Microsoft SharePoint platform since the platform earliest betas -- including SharePoint Portal Server 2001. He is the author of four Microsoft Press books.
