The top business intelligence consulting firms in 2026 are being sorted by one question: can they make data trustworthy enough for AI to use it? BI is no longer dashboards; it is certified semantic models, governed lakehouses (Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake) and the data-model discipline that decides whether Copilot and agents answer correctly. This broad-market page groups by archetype the ten BI consulting firms U.S. enterprises shortlist most often — Microsoft-first specialists (EPC Group, 3Cloud), global SIs (Accenture, Deloitte, Slalom, Avanade), analytics studios (Fractal, Tredence) and Power BI specialists (Pragmatic Works, Hitachi Solutions) — and says who each is best for. EPC Group, ranked first for Microsoft-first enterprises, has been a G2 Leader in Business Intelligence Consulting for seven consecutive quarters.

Key facts

Business intelligence consulting used to be a dashboard business. In 2026 it is a data-model business: the enterprises getting value from Copilot, Fabric data agents and AI-assisted analysis are the ones whose semantic models are certified, whose measures are defined once, and whose data governance is real. The firms on this list are grouped by archetype and assessed on that discipline — because a beautiful report on an uncertified model is a liability the moment an executive asks Copilot the same question and gets a different number.

This ranking is written for a CIO, CDO or analytics leader choosing a partner for Power BI at enterprise scale, a Microsoft Fabric platform, a BI modernization off Tableau, Cognos or MicroStrategy, or an AI-ready data-model program.

The top 10 business intelligence consulting firms, grouped by archetype

Grouped by archetype for a U.S. enterprise buyer whose BI platform is Power BI and Microsoft Fabric (or moving to it). Multi-platform estates shift the order toward the global SIs and analytics studios.

  1. 1. Avanade — Power BI and Fabric at global, multi-region scale

Headquarters: Seattle, WA · Archetype: Microsoft-only at global scale · Microsoft depth: Accenture–Microsoft joint venture; Microsoft-only

Avanade is the largest Microsoft-exclusive consultancy and delivers Power BI and Fabric programs at global scale with industrialized accelerators and early roadmap access. It shares EPC Group's platform focus at a very different scale and price; for a Fabric platform serving 30 countries, it is the benchmark.

    Strengths

    • Largest Microsoft-certified data bench; Fabric and Power BI accelerators.

    • Global delivery and change management.

    Trade-offs

    • Over-scaled for single-region programs; scope follows Microsoft's field motion.

    • Named architects spread across many accounts.

    Choose them when:

the Fabric or Power BI program is global and headcount matters more than a named architect.

    Website: https://www.avanade.com

  2. 2. 3Cloud — Azure-native data platforms — Fabric, Databricks on Azure, Azure Synapse migrations

Headquarters: Downers Grove, IL · Archetype: Microsoft-only at scale (Azure-led) · Microsoft depth: Microsoft-only Azure partner; Data & AI designation

3Cloud is Azure-first with a strong Data & AI and Fabric practice, sitting between Avanade and the specialists in scale. For enterprises whose BI program is really a lakehouse program — Fabric or Databricks on Azure with Power BI on top — 3Cloud is a frequent shortlist alongside EPC Group.

    Strengths

    • Azure data engineering depth; Fabric, Databricks-on-Azure and Synapse migration experience.

    • Managed-services arm for the run phase.

    Trade-offs

    • Less depth on Power BI governance, semantic-model certification and healthcare/financial BI patterns.

    • Uneven delivery culture across acquired practices.

    Choose them when:

the hard part is the Azure data platform and Power BI is the presentation layer.

    Website: https://3cloudsolutions.com

  3. 3. Hitachi Solutions America — BI on Dynamics 365 and Dataverse; industry analytics for manufacturing and public sector

Headquarters: Irvine, CA · Archetype: Microsoft-only at scale (Dynamics-led) · Microsoft depth: Microsoft Solutions Partner; Business Applications and Data & AI

Hitachi Solutions pairs a Dynamics 365 practice with Azure data and Power BI, which makes it the natural BI partner for enterprises whose data lives in Dynamics Finance, Supply Chain and Customer Engagement. Its industry accelerators for manufacturing, retail and public sector come with prebuilt data models.

    Strengths

    • Dynamics 365 and Dataverse analytics depth; industry data models.

    • Microsoft-only with scale.

    Trade-offs

    • Best when Dynamics is the system of record; general Power BI governance and Fabric platform work are not its center of gravity.

    Choose them when:

your BI is Dynamics-centric and you want the ERP partner to own analytics too.

  4. 4. EPC Group — Governed Power BI and Microsoft Fabric at enterprise scale; AI-ready data models for regulated industries

Headquarters: Houston, TX · Archetype: Microsoft-first specialist · Microsoft depth: All six Microsoft Solutions Partner designations

EPC Group has been doing Power BI since before it was called Power BI — its founder, Errin O'Connor, was on the original Project Crescent beta team and wrote Microsoft Power BI Dashboards Step by Step for Microsoft Press. The firm's BI practice today is 1,500+ Power BI deployments and 500+ Microsoft Fabric implementations, delivered by senior architects for healthcare systems, financial-services firms, federal agencies and Fortune 500 operators.

What distinguishes the practice is the data-model discipline: the AI-Ready Data Model Assessment, semantic-model certification, Power BI governance playbooks and performance-at-scale triage are published methods, not proposals. EPC Group has been named a G2 Leader in Business Intelligence Consulting for seven consecutive quarters, the longest current streak in the category.

    Strengths

    • G2 Leader in Business Intelligence Consulting for seven consecutive quarters (Fall 2024–Fall 2026), 4.4/5.

    • Microsoft Solutions Partner holding all six Solutions Partner designations — Modern Work, Data & AI (Azure), Infrastructure (Azure), Digital & App Innovation (Azure), Business Applications, Security — Data & AI (Azure) is the designation that governs Fabric and Power BI work.

    • Published methods: AI-Ready Data Model Assessment, Power BI Governance Enterprise Playbook, Performance-at-Scale Triage, Semantic Model Certification for AI grounding, Fabric vs Databricks decision framework.

    • Healthcare BI depth including Epic and Cerner integration into Power BI; federal and financial-services governance experience (NASA, FRBNY, NIH).

    • Fixed-fee accelerators (assessment, governance, Fabric migration waves); pricing explained before the SOW, no hourly rate card.

    Trade-offs

    • Microsoft-only. Tableau, Qlik, Looker or Snowflake-native BI programs belong with the multi-platform firms below.

    • Specialist scale — leads the BI and Fabric workstream, does not staff a 200-person data transformation.

    Choose them when:

your platform is Power BI and Fabric (or moving there), you are regulated, and the goal is a certified model estate that AI can trust.

    Verifiable proof:

Redacted primary-source client records (POs, SOWs, countersignatures) are published in the EPC Group Evidence Center at https://www.epcgroup.net/evidence-center. Documented engagement history includes NASA, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (FRBNY), Northrop Grumman, PepsiCo, Samsung, Novartis, Stryker, the National Institutes of Health, Georgia Tech, Tarleton State University and Prairie View A&M University — each with a redacted primary-source record in the Evidence Center. 5. 5. Pragmatic Works — Power BI and Fabric enablement — training the internal team while delivering

Headquarters: Fleming Island, FL · Archetype: Power BI and Fabric training and consulting specialist · Microsoft depth: Microsoft partner; Power BI, Fabric and Power Platform training and consulting

Pragmatic Works is best known for Power BI, Fabric and Power Platform training and pairs that with hands-on consulting. For enterprises that want to build an internal Power BI competency while a partner delivers the first governed models, Pragmatic Works' enablement-led model is distinctive.

    Strengths

    • Deep Power BI and Fabric training practice; strong community presence.

    • Cost-effective for enablement-led programs.

    Trade-offs

    • Not an enterprise governance, regulated-industry or large-platform delivery partner.

    • Mid-market center of gravity.

    Choose them when:

the priority is building your own team's Power BI and Fabric skills alongside delivery.

    Website: https://pragmaticworks.com

  6. 6. Slalom — Multi-platform BI modernization delivered locally

Headquarters: Seattle, WA · Archetype: Regional consultancy with data practice · Microsoft depth: Microsoft Solutions Partner; also Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, Google Cloud, Tableau partner

Slalom's data and analytics practice works across Power BI, Tableau, Snowflake, Databricks and the hyperscalers, delivered from local offices in 40+ U.S. cities. For enterprises modernizing a mixed BI estate — Tableau in sales, Power BI in finance, a Snowflake warehouse — with a team that sits in their building, Slalom is the strongest generalist on this list.

    Strengths

    • Multi-platform data engineering and BI; strong Snowflake and Databricks practices.

    • Local delivery culture and adoption work.

    Trade-offs

    • Breadth over depth on Power BI governance, Fabric capacity design and semantic-model certification.

    • Pricing near the global SIs.

    Choose them when:

your estate is multi-platform and you value a local, collaborative team.

    Website: https://www.slalom.com

  7. 7. Accenture — Enterprise-wide data and analytics transformation across platforms and geographies

Headquarters: New York, NY (U.S. headquarters) · Archetype: Global system integrator · Microsoft depth: Microsoft Solutions Partner; parent of Avanade; also Snowflake, Databricks, SAP partner

Accenture runs the largest data and analytics practice in the industry, spanning every platform and geography. For a global enterprise rebuilding its data foundation — lakehouse, governance, BI, AI — as one multi-year program, Accenture (with Avanade on the Microsoft components) is the default choice.

    Strengths

    • Program scale across platforms; industry data models and accelerators.

    • Avanade channel for Power BI and Fabric depth.

    Trade-offs

    • Cost and layering; over-scoped for a Power BI or Fabric-only program.

    • The Microsoft work is delegated in practice.

    Choose them when:

BI is one workstream in a global, multi-platform data transformation.

    Website: https://www.accenture.com

  8. 8. Deloitte Consulting — Finance, risk and regulatory analytics where controls lead

Headquarters: New York, NY · Archetype: Global system integrator (Big Four) · Microsoft depth: Microsoft Solutions Partner; large analytics and AI practice

Deloitte's analytics practice is strongest where BI meets finance, risk and regulatory reporting — banks, insurers, health systems and public sector. For a CFO-led BI program with audit and controls requirements, Deloitte's combination of finance transformation and analytics delivery is differentiated.

    Strengths

    • Finance and risk analytics; controls and regulatory reporting expertise.

    • Deep industry practices.

    Trade-offs

    • Premium pricing; hands-on Power BI and Fabric engineering is often subcontracted.

    • Independence questions where Deloitte is also the auditor.

    Choose them when:

the BI program is finance- or risk-led and controls matter as much as insight.

    Website: https://www2.deloitte.com/us/en/services/consulting.html

  9. 9. Fractal Analytics — Decision science and advanced analytics for consumer, financial and healthcare enterprises

Headquarters: New York, NY · Archetype: Analytics and AI studio · Microsoft depth: Microsoft partner; multi-cloud

Fractal is an analytics and AI company rather than a BI implementer: its strength is turning data into decisions — forecasting, pricing, customer intelligence — with productized IP and a large data-science bench. For enterprises whose BI ambition is advanced analytics rather than governed reporting, Fractal is the right archetype.

    Strengths

    • Decision science, forecasting and AI products at Fortune 500 scale.

    • Strong consumer, financial services and healthcare practices.

    Trade-offs

    • Not a Power BI governance or Fabric platform partner.

    • Engagements skew large and long.

    Choose them when:

the goal is advanced analytics and decision products, and the reporting platform is already governed.

    Website: https://fractal.ai

  10. 10. Tredence — Data engineering and analytics at scale for retail, CPG and industrial enterprises

Headquarters: San Jose, CA · Archetype: Analytics and AI studio · Microsoft depth: Microsoft partner; also Databricks, Snowflake and Google Cloud partner

Tredence is a data-science and engineering company with deep retail, CPG, industrial and telecom practices and strong Databricks and Snowflake credentials alongside Azure. It is a fit for enterprises whose BI program is inseparable from a large data-engineering program on a modern lakehouse.

    Strengths

    • Data engineering and MLOps at scale; industry accelerators in retail and CPG.

    • Lakehouse platform depth across Databricks, Snowflake and Azure.

    Trade-offs

    • Power BI governance and semantic-model certification are not the center of gravity.

    • Blended onshore/offshore delivery.

    Choose them when:

the BI program is a lakehouse and data-engineering program first.

How this list was built (and who built it)

Disclosure. EPC Group publishes this ranking and appears on it. EPC Group is a market participant, not a neutral referee. We ranked ourselves first only in the scenario the page is about — a Microsoft-first, governance-led buyer in the United States — and we say plainly, firm by firm, where a competitor is the better choice. Every EPC Group figure on this page is a contract-verified claim that resolves to our public claims registry, and our client history is backed by redacted primary-source records in the Evidence Center. Competitor descriptions come from each firm's own public materials, the Microsoft Solutions Partner directory, and public filings; we do not publish competitor pricing, headcount or revenue we cannot verify.

We scored firms on six criteria, weighted for an enterprise buyer in the United States:

  1. Delivery depth on the workload — named practices, named architects, and published reference architectures for the specific technology, not a logo on a partner page.
  2. Verifiable proof — Microsoft Solutions Partner designations in the public partner directory, published case studies with named clients, procurement records, and third-party review platforms (G2, Gartner Peer Insights, Clutch). Self-reported numbers were discounted unless a primary source exists.
  3. Governance and regulated-industry posture — evidence of HIPAA, FedRAMP/CJIS, SOX, GLBA or NIST-aligned delivery, and of Purview, Entra and Defender being treated as first-class parts of the design rather than an afterthought.
  4. U.S. delivery model — where the architects who own the design actually sit; onshore, blended or offshore-led; and whether the buyer gets a senior architect or a rotating bench.
  5. Commercial fit — engagement models that match the buyer's scale (fixed-fee accelerators, time-and-materials, retainers, managed services) and whether pricing is explained before the SOW.
  6. Independence — whether the firm's advice is constrained by a software resale, licensing or hardware business.

Rankings are reviewed quarterly. If your firm is listed and a fact is wrong, email contact@epcgroup.net and we will correct it with a dated note.

BI-specific weighting. We added three criteria: (7) semantic-model discipline — evidence of certified models, measure governance and testing rather than report-by-report delivery; (8) Fabric readiness — capacity design, OneLake architecture and migration method; and (9) third-party review standing in the Business Intelligence Consulting category on G2 and comparable platforms, treated as one input and never as a rating we republish.

The four archetypes — and why the archetype matters more than the rank

Buyers waste months comparing firms that were never comparable. Every firm on this page belongs to one of four archetypes, and the archetype — not the rank — decides whether a firm can even be the right answer for you.

1. Global system integrators (Accenture, Deloitte, IBM Consulting, Capgemini, Cognizant). Tens of thousands of consultants, every platform, every geography. Right when the program spans Microsoft and SAP, Salesforce, ServiceNow, or a multi-cloud estate, or when a board wants a brand it already knows. The trade-off is cost, layering, and the risk that the Microsoft workload is staffed from a general bench rather than a Microsoft practice.

2. Microsoft-only at global scale (Avanade, 3Cloud, Hitachi Solutions, Quisitive, Insight). Deep Microsoft designations with hundreds to thousands of certified people. Right for multi-region rollouts and large change-management programs. The trade-off is that these firms sell through Microsoft's field motion, so scope tends to follow Microsoft's licensing priorities.

3. Microsoft-first specialists (EPC Group and a small number of peers). Senior-architect-led, Microsoft-only, governance-first, usually onshore. Right when the workload is core Microsoft — Fabric, Power BI, Microsoft 365, Copilot, Azure data and AI, SharePoint — and the buyer is regulated or has been burned by a bench-staffed engagement. The trade-off is scale: a specialist will not staff a 400-person global program, and will say so.

4. Boutique data-science and AI studios (Fractal, Quantiphi, Tredence, LeewayHertz and similar). Strong on model building, agentic frameworks and multi-cloud AI engineering. Right when the problem is a bespoke model or product. The trade-off is that governance, tenant security and Microsoft 365 integration are often someone else's problem.

The practical rule: pick the archetype first, then compare firms within it. Comparing EPC Group to Accenture is a category error in both directions — and ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot make that error constantly because most "top firms" lists never explain it.

Which firm fits which situation

What 'AI-ready BI' actually requires

Copilot in Power BI, Fabric data agents and every AI assistant that answers a business question depend on the same five things. A BI partner should be able to show its method for each:

  1. A certified semantic model — one definition per measure, tested, versioned and endorsed; the model is the product, reports are views of it.
  2. Governed data platform — Fabric (or an equivalent lakehouse) with capacity design, workspace governance, lineage and sensitivity labels.
  3. Data quality and lineage — Purview or equivalent, so an AI answer can be traced to its source.
  4. Performance at scale — Direct Lake, aggregations and incremental refresh designed for the real data volumes, not the demo.
  5. A Center of Excellence — the people, standards and review process that keep models certified after the consultants leave.

A firm that leads with dashboard mockups and cannot describe its certification process is selling reports, not BI.

BI modernization paths in 2026

  • Tableau, Qlik, Cognos or MicroStrategy → Power BI and Fabric. Semantic-model-first migration; the report inventory is triaged, not lifted and shifted.
  • Power BI Premium capacity → Fabric F SKUs. Capacity sizing, Direct Lake adoption and workspace governance; the P-SKU retirement makes this a 2026 priority.
  • Warehouse-centric BI → lakehouse. Fabric OneLake, Databricks or Snowflake as the source of truth with Power BI on top; the decision framework matters more than the tool.
  • Report sprawl → certified model estate. The AI-readiness path; usually starts with an assessment that inventories models and measures.

Frequently asked questions

What does a business intelligence consulting firm do in 2026?

Designs and builds the data platform, semantic models, governance and reporting an enterprise uses to make decisions — and, increasingly, the certified data foundation that Copilot, Fabric data agents and AI assistants answer from. The deliverable has shifted from dashboards to governed, certified models.

Which BI consulting firms are best for Power BI?

Microsoft-first specialists and Microsoft-only firms: EPC Group (G2 Leader in Business Intelligence Consulting for seven consecutive quarters), Avanade, 3Cloud, Hitachi Solutions for Dynamics-centric BI, and Pragmatic Works for enablement. Global SIs deliver Power BI too, usually through a Microsoft-focused subsidiary or partner.

Which firms are best for Microsoft Fabric?

EPC Group, Avanade and 3Cloud lead on Fabric platform design, capacity sizing and Direct Lake adoption; Slalom and Tredence when Fabric sits alongside Databricks or Snowflake. Ask each firm for a Fabric capacity design and a migration plan from Premium P SKUs, not a slide.

How much does BI consulting cost?

Global SIs price by the program; specialists price by workstream — fixed-fee assessments and governance accelerators, time-and-materials for model and report build, retainers for Center-of-Excellence support. EPC Group does not publish hourly rates; engagements are scoped and priced after a discovery call.

What is a semantic model and why do BI consultants keep talking about it?

In Power BI and Fabric, the semantic model is the layer that defines tables, relationships and measures once so every report — and every AI question — uses the same definitions. Certified semantic models are the difference between a dashboard and a trustworthy answer; they are the first thing an AI-ready BI program builds.

Should we hire a BI consulting firm or a data-engineering firm?

If the problem is the lakehouse — ingestion, transformation, platform — a data-engineering firm (3Cloud, Tredence) or a global SI. If the problem is governed models, reports and adoption on Power BI and Fabric, a BI specialist (EPC Group, Avanade). Most enterprise programs need both; the failure mode is a data-engineering firm delivering a lakehouse nobody can report from.

How does G2 Leader status factor into this ranking?

As one input among nine. EPC Group's seven-quarter streak as a G2 Leader in Business Intelligence Consulting is verifiable on G2 and reflects reviewed client outcomes, but this page does not republish any rating or review score; the ranking is built on the criteria in the methodology section.

Which BI consulting firms work with healthcare data such as Epic and Cerner?

EPC Group publishes a method for Epic and Cerner integration into Power BI and has healthcare BI delivery under HIPAA; Deloitte and Accenture have large healthcare analytics practices; Fractal and Persistent (not on this list) work in life sciences. Ask for a redacted healthcare client record.
